A Haunting Fear

Once, when I was a kid, my shoe lace got caught in an escalator.  I'd like to believe that this is the reason I fear escalators even now, but it's more the timing thing that is off for me.  You'd think I was jumping into double dutch jump ropes made of razor blades the way I time those moving steps before daring to hitch my ride.  I feel ridiculous.  I look ridiculous.

The other day it was pouring rain.  Well, for lots of other days it has been pouring rain (today, however, was BEAUTIFUL!)  but this other day was especially special because we got to kidnap Ryan from the store for a bit.  What'd he want to do?  Take the kids to the mall to ride the escalators.  They'd never had so much fun.  I was a wreck.  This is no way to live!!!!!!!

Haha, that's too funny...not for you, but it's funny as a spectator. What happened when you got your shoelace stuck in the escalator? Just make sure to hold on to the railing and you'll be fine! :) Oh, and make sure your shoes are tied. LOL

I'm NOT a big fan of the escalator either. I always feel like my foot is going to be sucked into it or something. I'm always thrilled when they are broken and you have to use them as plain old steps; what's wrong with stairs anyway?

I'm afraid of escalators too! My uncle got his thumb caught in the handrail when he was little and I've heard wayyy too many horror stories like yours. Not to mention that I always feel like I'm about to topple backwards at any moment... Austin always makes fun of me for wanting to take the stairs instead; people just don't understand. I'm here for ya, sister!
I also have a fear of escalators. Rich never understands. I am pretty sure my fear came from watching the show "Rescue 911" where a child got partly sucked into one. I've been traumatized for life.
I too share this fear. Mine came from a shopping trip with my dad and brother when I was middle school or younger, I had my foot on two steps and when they went down and separated, I almost fell the whole way. My dad was in front of me and had to come back up to go with me, I wouldn't do it on my own :). I still watch very carefully and time my step, though it's not quite as bad now as it was then, I understand!
