The green hymn book
Russell's primary is learning three hymns this year for their program. Three hymns! And difficult hymns! If my memory serves me right, we didn't learn hymns from the green book in my days in Primary. This being said, I KNOW my memory is right as I write that my kids are growing up surrounded by a bit more fog than we had to navigate through.
I don't get a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach when I think about my kids surviving life out there, though. Trust me, this has nothing to do with confidence in my parenting skills (ha ha! nil skill...some days I have no clue what I'm doing), and nothing, even, to do with learning hymns, but it has everything to do with my confidence in these kids. A four year old CAN learn difficult things. A twelve year old CAN say no to playing soccer on Sundays. A sixteen year old CAN feel beautiful in a modest prom dress. They CAN even say no to all the horrible other stuff that hasn't even been invented yet.......times infinity! Got that, Satan!
The world's expectations for our youth is so insulting to their potential. We know they are "choice" spirits. We know they've got what it takes. Now let's give them all we've got. This STARTS with believing in them.
