I ♥ Letterboxing

Have you heard of this letterboxing thing?  The website looked kind of daunting to me at first and a little like a hobby that could attract some strange birds, but I think the idea is brilliant and I love it anyway.  Families or individuals have buried their "letterbox" in a place that is significant to them, and then left riddles on THIS website giving clues as to how to find it.  In the letterbox (they recommend on the website to use a plastic Ziploc container covered in duck tape) is a little book and a rubber stamp.  Those who have found the "treasure" leave their family's stamp and date of  discovery in the book and then rebury it all.  You also bring along your own book to use the stamp that the letterbox owner has left to document that you've been there and that you've found them.  I'm afraid my instructions are as clear as the dirt that you've got to dig to get to a letterbox, but just think of what an awesome book that could be over the years!  These things are ALL OVER.  Such a cool way to make the world a little smaller and a bit more personal.  It's worth a trip to Provo just so I can hike the "Y" and hunt for the letterbox and stamp my book!  Or who is in for a visit to Pismo and the Monarch Butterflies?  Love it!

okay, this is way cool! I just found out about geo caching a couple weeks ago and totally want to try it out. Same principle but they leave GPS coordinates and you find the "geo" or whatever trinket the people left. Then you write your name and date on the paper they leave with the geo and put it back.

I like the letterbox idea, because you get to take the proof with you instead of leaving it there...have they left any in Sac Town?? It'll be worth a trip when the rain stops.

We just went to the Monarch Grove. Too bad I didn't read this before we went, what a fun adventure that would have been for all the kids!
