#3: Thankful for Beach Bonfires

Our family does love a good bonfire!  And I love this story:

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed ashore on a small, uninhabited island. Alone and afraid, he prayed for God to rescue him. Every day he scanned the horizon looking for help, but day after day, none appeared. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a shelter out of some driftwood to protect himself from the elements.  One day, after scavenging for food, he returned to his shelter to find his little hut engulfed in flames. Overcome with grief he fell to the sand and through his tears said, "God how could you do this to me?" In his despair, and exhausted from weeping, he fell asleep.  Early the next morning, he heard a sound. He looked up and saw a ship approaching the island. It had come to rescue him. Safely on board the ship, he asked the captain, "How did you know that I was here?"  The captain answered. "We saw your smoke signal."

We've built a good deal of our own crude shelters these past few years.  We all get to experience our seasons of this.   As of lately, our efforts to survive seem to make fantastic fuel for fires.  But great big fires are less difficult for our Rescuer to spot, are they not?  Too many tender and sweet experiences I've experienced (these seem to come in greater abundance when shipwrecked)  that I answer that question with one great big resounding "YES!"  He's there and He's aware and He's in control and He loves me....and if my opportunity to know these truths means a grand ol' bonfire at the beach, then I'll continue building my little hut in preparation for the next party, because I have been blessed by bonfires.

Thanks for the beautiful reminder to be grateful for ALL things - even when the heat is a little too hot for our comfort!
