Good guys, bad guys, and CTR rings

Russell likes to categorize.  Since he was just a wee little guy he has always loved to organize his toys in some sort of pattern.  We have pictures of him lining up his trains from smallest to largest and color coordinating his hot wheels.  The kid just likes order, and disturbing that order sends him into an absolute frenzy.  He also really likes to discuss "good guys" and "bad guys."  I think this is his effort to make sense of the world by again, categorizing.  Or he's just being a boy.  :)   He is mostly fascinated by "bad guys."  I don't know if I should be concerned about this fascination or not, but for now I just take advantage of every teaching opportunity I can.  We talk a lot about how pirates don't always choose the right.  He has concluded that pirates, being as they like gold and jewelry so much, and the man that stole our tip jar from the store,  all need CTR rings.  Russell, I think that's exactly what they need.  :)

And as I've mentioned before, the boy is also fascinated when he sees people smoking.  I think he has observed and analyzed this one enough now to realize that people who use cigarettes don't ACTUALLY turn into donkeys like Pinocchio claims, but I still get a lot of questions.   Not too long ago Russell asked if people that smoked were "bad guys."  I explained to him that no, they weren't "bad," but that they just don't understand that their bodies are super, super special.  As we were going into a store today on our usual errand route, there was a woman smoking just outside.  As we were passing her, Russell said in his LOUD voice, "that lady doesn't know how special her body is."  Usually when he's being his little outspoken self I try to quiet him, but he said it with such a sweet sincerity and concern for this woman that I almost. hope. she. heard.

I love Russell's need for order. We could all use a little more of it, I think!
