A day for "Remembering"

The other day I was filling out a bunch of rental applications, because yes, the time has come to move again. This will be move number 8 in the 7 years we've been married.  We're getting pretty good at this!  Our applications looked something like this:

Current employment:  Business owners
Time of employment:  8 months
Previous employment:  Lost Jobs
Current residence:  Parent's House
Previous residence:  Foreclosure

I'll admit a few tears were shed as it was difficult to see the last five years of our lives staring back at me from a fill-in-the blank form that didn't leave room for "remembering." Yes, dear rental agency,  never mind that 80% of businesses fail in the first two years and most of those are restaurants (we're not REALLY a restaurant :)  ) and we're not even halfway there...'cause "remember," we're good at being in the interesting 20% even if....please no if...but EVEN IF this time we're not, we know we're supposed to be here right now.  And yes, we did lose our jobs but "remember" what we learned (oh, what we learned!)  and "remember" that we were able to grow our family and have our little Russell at work right along side with us as we all grew, grew, grew up together!  And yeah, last time I checked it is not so cool to be in your mid twenties (Ryan's not so mid anymore!)  and be living with the parents,  but "remember" how gracious (thank you, thank you!) they've been with putting up with us in their home and what an opportunity for the kids to get to really know who their grandparents are.  And sure, we did have to give our house up but "remember" what led us to that house..."Remember" the people we met and the opportunities we had to serve.  "Remember" that Ryan was able to work next to an angel of a Bishop and be tutored and trained and taught by a stalwart man of God.  Plus, we learned all sorts of handy skills like how to use a hopper and how to put in sprinklers.  So don't you see, "to whom it may concern,"  yes, our application looks less than pretty but we really are supposed to be here right now and the Lord's hand has directed us ever step of the way.  He's not going to stop now!   There's so, so much more "remembering" to be made!

Great blog.......tender story. All those experiences as you know make you stronger. And you are not alone in your experience. We have been there done that and are all the better for it! I will miss seeing your smiling face each week; but I'm so happy for both of you!

Ditto what Sue said! I think instead of "lost jobs" you should put "victims of the economy"!!! You are setting a wonderful example to your families about staying true to yourself and 'carrying on' :-) It's our good fortune to know you - and thanks to being close and blogs, that doesn't have to change :-)))
